Her hat was on her head tipped down as her hands rested on the horn of the saddle, the big boned stud underneath her stood patiently waiting for his next cue. She leaned down to pat his neck, looking back to the barn as her father and some works came out on their horses, ready Aria? He asked, she nodded like always dad. He chuckled and she turned Joker and the headed off into the cow pastures, object of today, separate mom and babies. She yawned as they approached the group of cows and babies. She tapped the studs sides and he picked up a jog as the inched closer and closer, she knew the plan run um down and then enter the pen and push the cows in on and the calves in the other. She grinned ready boy? He nickered and she gave him a swift kick, a whoop leaving her followed by a whistle signaling the dogs to help guide, she followed alongside, as her father and them pushed and collected the stragglers and runaways, Jokers creamy mane was braided down his neck as not to get in her face, she pulled him to a stop in front of the pen, Joker dancing underneath her as she did so, she followed in, starting the task of separating, after three hours total the job was done. Good job we will start branding tomorrow, Aria your free to do what you want just be home at five. She nodded and dismounted, leading the palomino into the barn, she stripped the tack off and hosed him done, turning him out into the pasture. He took off after his friends and in his eyes his herd. She shook her head and headed into the house and upstairs to shower and change into a pair of her favorite jeans and a tank top, it was a cool day today so she put on her purple hoodie and her brown cowboy boots and grabbed her purse heading downstairs, she pulled her keys out and grabbed a snack and said goodbye and went out and got into her truck, she decided she was going to get a cup of coffee and just relax until she decided what to do. After getting her cup of coffee, she went to the lake. Hiding her purse under the seat she hopped out and locked the truck and went to sit on her favorite rock and drew her knees up to her chest and pulled her sleeves down so they covered her hands, with a sigh she looked out and took a sip of her drink wondering were Ethan was right now.

Ethan had had a rough morning and really wasn't in the mood to deal with anyone. Actually, he'd had a really rough week. Or maybe a month. Things had gone from good, to bad, to worse so far this summer and he wasn't sure when they were going to get better.

First, he'd met Aria. She'd changed everything and given him hope that this summer would be amazing. It didn't seem like it had only been a little over a month ago that they'd first officially met and gotten to know each other. He knew her by the back of his hand and felt as if they'd been friends forever. The friendship had blossomed into something more, and with each day they'd spent together he'd gotten braver. It was hard to work up his nerves to give her that first kiss, but then the walls had come tumbling down and he felt so at ease with her. Or maybe it was just his hormones taking control. Whatever it was, he missed the time he'd spent with her.

During the couple of weeks she'd been stuck around the house after her injury, he'd visited often. Occasionally he packed a surprise lunch and walked her out into her yard for a makeshift picnic. He'd saved what little money he had to buy her small gifts. A new drawing book, brilliantly vivid colored pencils, and so on. Just little things to help her pass the time. It had been going so well...

But then one day he went over to visit her, and he forgot to check the time. He also left his cell phone in his truck. He should have been home for dinner, or at least called to let his parents know where he was. Instead, he ended up staying at Aria's until nearly midnight. Boy, he'd never see his dad as mad as he was when he finally pulled in the driveway at home. No amount of apologizing or explaining that he really hadn't done anything wrong had helped. Instead, his dad had taken away his phone, computer, and grounded him from leaving the house for 2 weeks. He hadn't gotten a chance to explain to Aria what was going on, and he hadn't seen her since that night.

Today was his first day of freedom, but the truth was he felt scared again. He knew she probably hated him (or worse) for deserting her for so long. Maybe she'd even found someone else already. So instead of calling her up and trying to see her, he drove down to the lake. He didn't park in his usual spot, instead he parked down the hill about a mile. He'd gotten out of the truck, slammed the door, and took off walking down the nature trails. He just needed some time in solitude to think.

Tennis shoes scuffed through the dirt path slowly, and soon enough he found himself whistling softly. Being outdoors always improved his mood. He followed the trail as it wound its way through oak and sycamore trees, then paused to admire a bush of bright golden flowers. He reached down and picked one, then stuck the stem in his pocket. Maybe he'd take it home and give it to his mom later.

As he felt more relaxed, he picked up a jog. The humid air made it harder to breathe, and soon he was panting and sweating quite a bit. His navy t-shirt that had been loose when he started now clung to his skin, showing off the light muscles earned by farm work. His mind wandered as he ran, and within a few minutes he came to a clearing at the edge of the lake. He nearly tripped over himself as he came to a skidding halt at the edge of the trees, realizing he had ran all the way to his favorite spot. And there, right in front of him, sat Aria. Was it fate? So strange that they'd meet unexpectedly again in the place where they'd first met. But still, he felt frozen to the ground and stood, silently watching her.

She placed the cup to her lips taking another sip, she had been up sense the butt crack of dawn, feeding watering, mucking, then came breakfast as it was her morning, then she had to race out to get Joker ready in time so she could help her dad. Poor girl had gone nonstop and now it felt good to breath. She took a deep breath sighing as she did so almost tempted to go for a swim, to help herself relax more and get more of her exercise in seeing she hadn’t jogged that morning. She set the cup down and took her boots off not even realizing that one thing she really wanted to see was standing somewhere behind her watching her. Next came her hoodie, then her tank tops until she was standing in her swimsuit, pulling her hair up, she knew this part was deep enough and so she dived off the rock and surfaced in the water, when she turned around to look back at shore she was pleasantly surprised, to see Ethan. She blushed, knowing he had just seen her. She swam back to shore and slipped her jeans on not caring if they got wet, she walked over to him with a smile on her face. How on earth could she be angry at him? wrapping her arms around his neck she kissed him, pulling back she looked at him, im not angry at you so don’t worry about it I assumed it had something to do with the night you left my house so late. Her mama had always said it would be Aria who got herself in trouble because of a boy, she wasn’t about to prove them wrong, she knew she needed to be home at five and she would be but until then there was nothing stopping her from being with the boy of dreams. She didn’t care he was sweaty and what not, she was wet so what difference did it make she just wanted to be with him.

His eyes locked onto her slender figure and they sparkled with intrigue. He watched her get up and remove all of her clothing - down to her swimsuit. Being a guy, it was only natural for him to stare. Her back was to him, so he didn't really see much, but still, it was the first time he'd seen her so exposed. Not that she looked improper or anything, but still, he hadn't been expecting it.

His eyes held their interest as she found a safe spot on the higher rocks and then jumped off into the lake, making a splash as she submerged. Only when she resurfaced did she finally turn around to face him. It was clear she'd spied him in his meager hideout, for she quickly got out and slid her jeans back on over her dripping swimsuit. He shook his head, laughing as she approached him. It was just like Aria - going swimming without using a towel.

Before he decided how to greet her, she'd closed the distance between them and greeted him with a surprise. She kissed him, throwing her arms around his neck as she did so. He felt his heart melt yet again, and felt a flood of relief as he realized she apparently wasn't holding a grudge against him. She broke free from the kiss and spoke to him, and he nodded instantly. "Yep, my dad was pretty darn mad about that. Woudln't believe me when I said I done nothin' wrong." He shrugged, like it didn't really matter though. "Today is the first day I'm ungrounded an I jus' wanted to get out and clear my head." He interjected a laugh as he continued to talk. "Yeah, yeah, I know. Ya'd think I wouldda had plenty of head clearin' time while I was grounded. But I guess after two weeks of it, I just didn't know what to do with my freedom again."

He grinned at her, hoping nothing had changed between them since he saw her last. He felt his nerve growing and reached out and pulled her into a tender hug. He tilted her back away from him and looked down into her face as his words formed again. "Seriously, Aria, I missed ya somethin' fierce. I wanted to let ya know, but I just couldn't. Are ya sure you forgive me?" He gave her a sheepish grin, making sure to over exaggerate puppy-dog eyes.

She smiled and laughed along with him, well I wouldn’t know what to do with myself after being grounded for that long either, I didn’t know what to do with myself when I was injured. She laughed and kept her arms around his neck, the smile still across her lips as she looked at him and then took her into a tender hug followed by tipping her back, she panicked at first but relaxed and laughed, Mister Ott not a darn thing has changed with us and you are greatly forgiven and you were greatly missed. She smiled and looked up at him, how could I not forgive such a handsome man and not to mention my boyfriend. She grinned, next time you come over though I will make sure you leave on time, no matter how much fun we are having. She still remembered that night, they had played with the kids and he had helped her get them into bed and afterward they went and cuddled in her bed and lost all track of time she could help but feel like part of it was her fault. She straightened and couldn’t help but kiss him again. So Mister Ott did you enjoy the show? Im pretty sure you were standing here as I took my clothes off. She smiled and shook her head, she didn’t have an actual top on just her swim top, which was simple black with some ruffles and tied around her neck and back. Im just so happy to finally be able to see you again, she spoke and truly she was. She didn’t have a thing to worry about because he was hers and nobody was going to ruin that.

Ethan blushed at her exaggerated compliments. "Shucks Ari, I'm not all that you make it sound like I am." Nonetheless, he smiled and tickled her playfully. He smiled at her and threw his hands up in mock defense as she spoke. "C'mon, how could I help but watch?" A deep blush crept across his face as his voice drew down to a whisper. He had firm morals beneath him, but he found himself thinking of the last night they'd spent together. They'd ended up laying in her bed cuddling - in a very respectful manner. No, he wasn't the guy to be all over a girl or push things too fast. Quite the opposite. But still, he could remember the sweet scent of her shampoo as he'd leaned in close to her hair. He remembered how soft and fragile she felt when he wrapped his arms around her and drew her close to his chest. He wasn't a big guy, though he claimed his growth spurt hadn't kicked in yet. He wasn't short, but he wasn't very broad or muscled yet. He had the lead muscles of a farm boy, but not the kind of a body builder. She stepped near him and kissed his neck right under his ear, that’s all she did before stepping back and taking his hands, my mom misses you coming over to the house she said you have a way with the kids. She laughed, they ask where you are as well, they think you were eaten by a monster. She winked and swung their hands back and forth as she waited for Ethan to speak, letting the silence sink between them, she looked away and over the water watching the birds and then the clouds knowing today there was a good chance for some severe weather. She sighed and waited.

Ethan savored the kiss she offered him, and then laughed in all the appropriate places as she responded to him. He had no answer when she mentioned taking things a step further, and stared anywhere but into her eyes. He was glad when she changed the subject. Any diversion to the awkardness was a good thing.

"Uh, yeah, I miss them all too..." He spoke quietly and slowly. He wasn't sure if he really missed them all. The only thing he'd really missed much over the past two weeks was Aria herself. It wasn't that he didn't like her family, but he was 16, and lived with a full family himself. He'd much rather get out and enjoy time alone with just his girlfriend. He spoke again, trying to put his feelings into words. "But what I really missed was you." As he spoke, he released her hands and pulled her towards him, leaning down to kiss her. "I gotta say, I'm glad you're better so we can actually do somethin fun...besides just sittin in your room." He took his index finger and tapped it on his temple, eyes narrowing as his face drew into a thinking pose.

"Speakin of doin somethin fun, what do you wanna do now that you're better?" He'd come up with ideas of his own for places they could go on casual dates, but he wasn't ready to share any of them with her just yet. Perhaps for fear she wouldn't like his ideas, and perhaps just because he wanted to see if she suggested anything better first.

He laughed at her answer. "Easy to please, huh?" He flashed her a grin, showing his faint dimples. I hope that means she'll like whatever I come up with, he thought to himself. To her, he said, "I guess that means I'll jus' have to come up with somethin' on my own." His eyes grew wide as she removed her jeans and turned and walked out to the water. He gulped for air and stood firmly on the ground, blue eyes never leaving her figure.

She made it into thew water and swam out a distance and still all he could do was stare. Aria turned and looked back at him and yelled for him to join her. Then she showed off with a handstand before coming to rest, floating peacefully on the lake.

"Uh, maybe I'll just watch," he called back to her. He glanced down at his own clothing, and then thought back to what he had in his truck. Nope, no other clothes besides what was on his body, and definitely nothing designed for swimming. His mom would have a fit if he walked back into the house in wet jeans, so just swimming in them was not an option either. "Since I wasn't plannin' on swimmin', I don't got nothin' to wear." He hoped she realized he was telling the truth and wasnt just being a chicken.

To prove his point, he bent down and rolled up his pant legs. He then walked to the edge of the water and sat down on a big rock, dangling his legs into the water.

That’s fine, she spoke, turning over to watch him sit on the rock with his feet in the water, she swam over to him and smiled, next time you should bring something to swim in. She laughed and leaned up on the rock, not wanting to get his jeans wet, her parents were use to her coming home in wet jeans or shorts or in general her clothes. So it wasn’t a big deal for her, she grinned wickedly, deciding now she wasnt going to let him get off so easily, come on you can swim naked. She winked or in your underwear no one is around except me and im dating you so what does it matter. She laughed and raised an eyebrow, I mean if you come in the water im fair game, your not fair game because you are on the rock, you could touch my body as well. She smiled and moved over so she was leaning on him, her upper half was dry from being out of the water, leaning up she kissed him and placed a couple kisses on his neck. Before sliding back into the water, she sank into the water and swam under the water before popping up and away from him, she turned to face him grinning and then flipping over onto her back to float, she noticed the dark black clouds but they were still aways away, she silently waited to see what he did.

He sighed when she agreed he could stay out of the water. She swam over to him and leaded against him - almost too close for comfort. He squirmed inside, but did his best to act nonchalant about the closeness...and her exposed skin. His cheeks turned a pale pink, a color that seemed to be ever lingering when she was around. He'd always been teased about being an easy blusher, and he felt like it made him seem less manly than he should.

He sat back and squared his slowly broadening shoulders, ready to prove his manhood. But then she talked again, and his stomach grew queasy. Swim naked? No thanks. He wasn't ready for something so drastic just yet. She'd probably laugh and he'd never see her again, or something. No, that wasn't happening. But then she mentioned touching her body, and she came up and kissed him on the neck, sending a prickle of goosebumps down his arms.

What could it hurt to take off his jeans? She'd see his pathetic farmer's tan, but at that moment he didn't really care. He jumped up as she swam off, and then walked a few steps away and turned his back to her. His arms stretched high as he pulled his tee off his body, tossing it onto the ground. Glancing around to make sure no one was watching, he fumbled with his zipper, taking off his jeans and letting them fall to a heap on the ground.

He craned his neck around to look at her, without turning the rest of his body. She was now floating on her back again, and he wasn't sure if she could see him or not. He spun around and ran into the water as fast as he could, not entirely sure he wanted her to see him in his boxer-briefs just yet. Ethan swam over to her, and in the process he became thoroughly soaked from head to toe. He shook his hair, and then reached down and sent a heavy stream of water directed right at her. "You're pretty convincing, ya know that?" He laughed and then found the bottom, coming to stand with the water hitting right at his chest. She was a little shorter than he was, but he was pretty sure she could still stand there as well. He sent another wave of water splashing her way, just for good measure, and then reached out and pulled her towards him, kissing her forehead as he wrapped his arms around her. If she stood, she'd be mostly covered under the water, so he wouldn't have to worry about his eyes getting the best of him.

She sighed and peeked and eye open looking at the sky and the dark clouds, she heard the splash of the water and grinned, she had won for now. She smiled and felt the wave of water hit her, hey now that’s not nice and yes I know, its my specialty. She laughed and felt another wave of water, stirring her. She laughed as he kissed her forehead and wrapped his arms around her, she stood the water covering her and him, she giggled and looked at him, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissed him. You are a silly boy, she smiled and looked up to the sky again, she moved closer and pressed her body against his, we wont get to swim long but long enough, she laughed and kissed him again, she grinned, you really didn’t have to come in but I appreciate that you did. Smiling, she wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled both of them down into the water, she laughed as she popped back up on the surface, sorry I had to get you back, I wasn’t just going to let you have all the fun. She smiled and swam away from him, standing she bobbed in the water and looked at him, sort of challenging him but not really because she knew he could easily take her down. So she settled on raising an eyebrow and waiting for him to come get her.

Ethan was clearly enjoying the closeness between them, especially when she pulled herself closer against him. What guy woudln't? His pulse quickened and his grasp on her became more possessive as she kissed him, spoke, and then kissed him again. And then she wrapped her legs around his waist and he about lost it. His breath caught and he blushed, looking away from her.

Before he realized what was happening, she had pulled him down into the water too, laughing and then swimming away. He stayed put for a few moments, trying to regain power over his brain. He gulped for air a few times before reminding himself that he knew how to swim. Focus Ethan. Don't be an idiot, he told himself. He laughed and grinned at her, his competitive edge moving in. He knew he could outswim her, and he was guessing she knew it too.

He debated for a moment over what to do. Challenge her to a swimming race? Chase her down and dunk her under the water? He made up his mind. "So ya think you can beat me?", he called with a laugh as he began swimming towards her. She acted like she was going to try to swim away, but he moved his arms through the water faster, and then surged forward to grab her ankles and pull her back towards him. He spun her around and leaded into her, kissing her strongly on the lips. He let the kiss linger, savoring it. "Oh Ari, you don't know how glad I am I can see you again," Ethan whispered, breaking the kiss but keeping his words close to her face. "If only we could do this everyday, life would be perfect." He wrapped his arms around her, running his fingers through her hair as he pulled her head toward him and kissed her again.

She knew she couldn’t beat him, she was a strong swimmer but she really wasn’t in the mood to win a race, she wanted him to catch her and see what he had to offer. She grinned and nodded, maybe I am and maybe im not only one way to find out. She spoke and started to swim again as he did but slowed allowing him to catch up, she looked over her shoulder watching him swim faster toward her, she gave a slight gasp and swam a little more before slowing down and allowing him to close the distance. She laughed as he caught her ankle and spun her around, leaning in he kissed her with more intensity then every. She was happy when he pulled away so she could catch her breath, smiling as he spoke. I think I do know how happy you are to see me again and maybe we can do this again soon? She managed to get the words out before he pulled her head back for another kiss, she closed her eyes and kissed him back as feverishly as he was, she pressed her body close to his and wrapped her arms around his neck. Her legs wrapped around his waist again, she didn’t pull him down into the water this time just kept herself like that, she broke the kiss and looked at him with a smile, missed you, missed hanging out with you and I missed everything about you. She spoke breathless still as she brought her lips to his again and kissed him intensely, moving down to his neck, placing kisses along his neck and then bringing her lips back to his. She was enjoying the closeness between them and the feel of his heart racing against his chest. She smiled against the kiss and waited.
