Aria pulled into the driveway with her father, a soft sigh leaving her as they parked the truck and trailer near the barn and hopped out, they had just gotten back from a show that involved a road trip and staying for a week. Joker was excited to be back home, his long silky white mane braided down his neck as she unloaded him from the trailer, they had won many first place ribbons and trophies, belt buckles and a new saddle. The black and white stud colt she was still working with had gotten a couple thirds and a second place, Chip however had nothing on her beloved Joker. She lead the palomino into the barn and to his stall, unclipping the lead rope and closing the door and heading to unload Chip and place him in his stall, they were trying to beat a line of severe storms heading there way, she quickly started hauling tack in and soon all that was left was their bags and extra boots which they unloaded closed up the trailer and unhooked it from the trailer and headed up to the house. She gave her mother a big kiss on the cheek before heading up to her bedroom and starting to unpack, she had been texting Ethan the whole way home and hoped he would arrive before the storms hit.

Ethan shrugged off his mom's warning as he ran out the front door, slamming it behind him. He heard her saying something about hurrying home because some nasty summer storms were about to hit. He felt the temperature dropping and the breeze turning into a bit of a stronger wind, but jumped in his truck and started the engine up anyway. As he backed out of the drive he didn't notice the grey clouds looming in the not-so-far distance, and the cranked up radio drowned out the signs of the impending thunder.
Aria had been gone for only a week, which was a short time in the grand scheme of things. To Ethan it felt like it had been years, and he couldn't wait to see her again. They'd been dating pretty steadily for a year now, and he was finally over most of his awkward shyness. It still popped up now and then when things started getting a little too cozy, but overall he would have to say Aria was his best friend. I'm such a lucky guy, he thought, wondering once again how he was dating such a wonderful girl.
She was gorgeous, kind, considerate, and one of the most sincere people he'd ever met. Her family was a little crazy at times, but so was his own. She was the only one he could truly count on, and he was looking forward to going into his senior year with her by his side. If anything, she'd blossomed more over the past couple of months, and he hadn't failed to notice the looks some of the more popular guys had given her. For now, he was glad school was out so he had her all to himself without having to worry.
He reached Aria's house, interrupting his thoughts and leaving them where they were. He quickly brushed his blonde hair with his palm, trying to make it look reasonably tidy. Making a mental note to get his hair cut soon, he knocked on the front door, already hearing the sound of a boisterous family inside. They'd told him by now he didn't need to knock, but he always felt weird just barging in, especially if Aria wasn't around. He liked her parents well enough, but he's just as soon be out from under their scrutiny.

Ethan was a little disappointed to see Aria's mom answer the door. He hoped he wasn't in for an hour long Q and A session, but put on a smile and greeted her politely. Of course, she then proceeded to ask him if he hit any bad weather on the drive over, how his parents were doing, and what he had done all week. After a lot of "yes ma'am," and "no ma'am" he finally had her satisfied and she waved him away telling him she was sure Aria would be upset if she hogged all his attention. He nodded and as she walked off, he followed the path to Aria's bedroom, which he knew well enough by now.
He poked his head in and greeted her softly. "Hey you," he spoke, not at all surprised to quickly find her returning his greeting with a kiss. Laughing, he replied "I missed you too. How about you don't go off to any more shows this summer? Or at least take me with you!" He walked over and looked out her window to see the incoming storm for himself. Sure enough, the clouds loomed and the sky was growing more ferocious looking by the second. He guessed his mom hadn't been making idle warnings.
Ethan turned back to Aria and shrugged. "Oh well, good thing I didn't plan on leaving too soon anyway." He knew his parents wouldn't be okay with him staying out too late, but they wouldn't want him driving home in the storm either. He'd been warned more than enough times when he stayed at Aria's a little too long, but at least this time he'd have an excuse working on his side. Besides, after a week of separation, he wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of the evening in Aria's company, storm or not. He just hoped it wouldn't get bad enough to force them into the basement with the rest of the overgrown family.

She smiled and watched him look out the window, I hope we don’t have to go to the basement with my family, I just want to spend time with you and I cant just quit the horses and all the rest of them should be near home so I don’t have to stay overnight and you come watch and hang out all day with me. Aria spoke and looked out the window again, watching the storm move in and the first cracks of thunder she watched the lights flicker but that is it. Sitting up she walked over to the tv she had and placed a movie in the dvd player and shut the door leaving it open a crack just like her parents like, she laid back down on the bed and patted it, care to join me? She smiled and laughed she hadn’t even an idea what movie was in the dvd player, she couldn’t remember the last movie she watched, normally when she put a movie on she fell asleep or she was distracted by Ethan texting her, reaching over she grabbed her remote and hit play, the movie was Madagascar 2 and she had remember watching it with her younger sister, she felt Ethan arms around her and she snuggled into him and smiled, I hope this is ok I was watching it with my younger sister before I left. She laughed and rolled over, giving him a kiss and then kissing his neck, she couldn’t wait until that night happened but she could wait all in the same if it meant it was him. She turned to look at the tv screen and yawned, man was she tired and it didn’t really take long until she was sleeping contently in his arms.

He followed Aria's lead and headed over to the bed. But first he took off his button down shirt, leaving him in just a fitted white t-shirt. He settled down on the bed next to her as the movie started up. "It's fine, I'll watch anything you like and you know it." He flashed Aria a smile before situating his arm around her while propping his head up on the pillow with his other arm.
She snuggled against him, feeling warm and smelling like a mixture of girly perfume and horse. In his opinion, it was the perfect combination. He tried to pay attention to the movie, but couldn't take his eyes off her. Her breathing slowed and soon her eyes fluttered shut. He figured she'd had a long week and was probably exhausted. As the sounds of thunder drew near enough to rattle the house a little, he drew her closer, laying his head on top of hers. He closed his eyes and inhaled the sweet scents of her hair, feeling it tickle against his chin.
He slowly drifted off to sleep, and some amount of time passed as the storm ravaged the world outside the window. Neither of them stirred through the thunder, lightning, and terrifying winds. Not even as tree branches crashed on the trees outside. All of a sudden, he startled awake. Ethan looked around, trying to figure out what had waken him. He saw his phone vibrating on the floor beside the bed, playing one of his favorite songs as it did so. He quickly reached down and grabbed it, feeling his heart sink as he saw that it was his mom.
"Hello?," he answered roughly, trying to shake the sound of sleep from his voice. He had to work to focus on his mom's voice on the other end. Thankfully, she wasn't yelling at him. At least not yet. "No Mom, I'm find. I got here before the storm hit." He listened to her and carried on a conversation for a couple minutes, assuring her that he was safe. She told him there down power lines everywhere, trees blocking roads, and flooding of local creeks. Basically, the roads were treacherous at best and not safe for driving. He heard her saying that she'd have his dad come get him, but their driveway was blocked by a huge tree and she doubted they'd be able to make it there even if it wasn't.
Then she told him to go ask Aria's parents if he could sleep on the couch. "Mom, I'm sure it's fine, don't worry," he spoke with a slight degree of annoyance. He knew Aria's parents would have no problem with him sleeping on the couch, especially given the conditions outside. "No, I don't need to go ask, it's fine." After a couple minutes he convinced her that he really would be fine, safely tucked in for the night at Aria's house. His mom told him his dad would be over to get him as soon as the roads were clear in the morning. "Don't worry about it, I can always help with the clean-up projects here. I'll drive myself home as soon as the roads are safe." He hesitated as she protested, and then cut her off mid-sentence. "Okay, I'll call you in the morning and we'll figure it out. 'Night Mom," Ethan finally argued before he hung up.
He rolled over and stretched, yawning as he looked down at Aria. Seeing that she was awake now, he leaned down and kissed her lightly on the forehead. "Looks like I'll be staying here for the night. You don't mind, do you?" He smiled, already knowing she wouldn't mind at all. Glancing at his phone again, he saw that it was after 9:00, and the rest of her family would start heading off to bed soon. "Um, should I go talk to your parents, or do you want to?" He was a little nervous the might not agree to give him blankets to sleep on the couch, and thought they might have a better reaction if it came from Aria. Then again, they never minded much when he came over or what they did. It was just his parents who had to be so uptight about everything. He sighed, wishing his parents would realize he was practically a man and didn't need to be babysat all the time.

She hadn’t a clue what was going on in the world around them, all she could feel was his strong arms around her holding her close as they slept, it wasn’t until she heard his phone and him talking that she woke up. She sighed and opened her eyes, smiling and feeling him kiss her forehead, I will go talk to them and make sure that the farm is ok I will be back, if I have it my way your going to hold me all night. She stood and rubbed the sleep from her eyes placing her boots on just in case. She went downstairs and found her parents sitting at the kitchen table. Mom dad can Ethan stay the night its not safe for anyone to drive and his mom wants to make sure its ok. They looked at each other and nodded, that’s fine dear and we don’t care if he stays in your bed just don’t do anything but right now your father needs your help, checking out the fences real quick and making sure the pasture where we have the cows isn’t flooding, the storms are holding off for now but they are calling for more. She nodded and stood, zipping her hoodie up and heading out to the barn. She pulled Joker out from the arena and threw his bridle on, with the split reins her dad grabbed his mare and did the same thing, each had their phone she took one side he took the other. She opened the gate and shut it smacking his rump with the reins and he shot off, kicking up mud on himself and her, she saw nothing except debris everywhere, entangled in the fence and finally when she got to the far pasture where the cows where she could see the creeping of water and a large tree downing half the fence, quickly calling her father she let him know her report and that she was going to run the cows into the holding pen he said he would be waiting to help. She had just enough room to open the gate and get behind the cows and with a whistle and a whoop they were charging, the cows distressed calls and bellows could be heard as her father helped her move them into the pen, she pulled Joker to a hard stop and shut the gate quickly, they high fived and rode back to the barn. Leading Joker in, she could see she was covered in mud and so was Joker. She smiled and put him in the wash rack and gave him a quick bath before letting him out in the indoor arena, she headed into the house and upstairs heading to her room. Im sorry that took longer but you can stay and sleep in my bed with me as long as my door is cracked, now im going to go hop in the shower and wash this mud away and then I will be back. Grabbing her shorts and tank top, undergarments and sports bra that she slept in, she went to the bathroom and took a quick shower making sure to get all the mud off before getting out and getting dressed, she padded back to her room and shut the door leaving it open a crack, she was wide awake now but crawled into bed and kissed him with a smile.

Ethan just nodded as Aria went off to talk to her parents. He figured she'd be gone a few minutes so he quietly went into her bathroom and splashed some water on his hair. He tried smoothing it into place so it didn't look so messy after falling asleep, but it didn't do a whole lot of good. Then he looked down at his clothes and wondered what he was going to sleep in. He was still wearing his jeans and the white t-shirt, and of course his socks.
Reaching down to his waistline, he unfastened his belt and took it off. He wasn't much for sleeping in jeans, but at least they'd be quite a bit more comfortable without the belt. He wondered if Aria really meant what she said about sleeping together all night, but quickly brushed the thought away. Surely her parents wouldn't be up for that. Even with the door open, their bedroom was far enough away they wouldn't agree to it. No, they'd probably make him sleep on the couch for sure.
He sat down on the edge of her bed for a minute, flipping the DVD player off and scanning the channels for the news. He caught a couple brief clips about the storm, and realized they had probably gotten off lucky. After a few minutes, he wondered what was keeping Aria so long, and stood up and went over to the window. He peeked through the blinds, but couldn't see much of anything since it was almost pitch black out. There were lights on in the barn, so chances are Aria was still out checking on the farm.
Saying a silent prayer for her safety, and that the farm wasn't too badly harmed, he slipped back into bed, laying down with the blankets pulled up to his shoulders. He buried his head in a pillow, realizing it smelled like Aria. He dozed off a bit, comforted by feeling this nearness to her, and barely her her quietly come in. She told him something about him being able to sleep in her room, and he woke up immediately. "Okay..." he said weakly, "if you're sure."
A moment later she headed off to take a shower, and he found himself lying wide awake in bed. Realizing no one else was going to see him, he debated briefly on taking off his jeans to be more comfortable. Thinking for a second, he decided against it. He definitely did not want to give Aria the wrong impression. Ethan lay still with his hands folded across his chest, staring up at the ceiling. He was trying to think of anything but the fact that Aria was in the shower not too far from him, but being a teenage male...that was hard to do. Finally, he turned his eyes back to the TV, finding a movie and turning his attention to it.

Aria finished her shower and came back in. He rolled over to look at her and smiled, thinking to himself that her hair was really cute the way it curled when it was wet. As if seeming to know his thoughts, she told him he didn't have to sleep in his jeans. He paused for a moment, but then as she went over to the other side of the bed, he stood up and quickly slid his jeans off, and then climbed back into bed. Of course, this wasn't before quickly glancing down to see that he was wearing red boxer briefs, which he hoped Aria hadn't noticed. Red just didn't seem to be a very...mature or masculine color.
He felt her kisses and he closed his eyes and returned them with his own. "Mmm, I love you too," he said, still breaking away from a soft kiss. As she spoke, he wrapped his arm around her and gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze. "I'm sure everything will be fine sweetie. Besides, I'll be here with you all night, and as long as you need me tomorrow," he said reassuringly. "Besides, your parents have survived plenty of storms before. Your dad knows what he's doing."
As she rolled over, he wondered if she was trying to go to sleep, or just wanting more space. He rubbed her shoulder and upper arm with the hand that was wrapped around her, and then leaned over and stroked the hair away from her face with the other. Feeling a little more confident than usual, perhaps because it was dark, he leaned over and kissed the top of her ear, and then her cheek. Ethan scooted over closer then, and softly nudging her face toward him, he brought his lips to hers.
"I really do love you, princess," he whispered. "More than you'll ever know. I-I was serious about what I said earlier. I don't want to spend another day of this summer without seeing your beautiful face." He realized how much more comfortable he was with her than he had been a year ago, and silently thanked the heavens above that she'd stuck around through his awkward, shy stages. He wasn't so bad once he got to know someone, if only they gave him a chance.

Aria wasn’t trying to do anything oh no, she was trying to be good but he was making it hard because she loved him so much that she just loved when he kissed her. I know they have but dad and mom still stress especially with the cows getting so close to dropping their calves its just a very stressful time all around but dad always does have a solution and you’re the best Ethan, you truly are. She smiled and felt him rubbing her shoulder and upper arm, he moved the hair away from her face and then kissed her ear and cheek. He nudged her face over and kissed her, she smiled against the kiss and felt him break it and start to speak, she smiled thinking it was very sweet and he was so much more confident. Mmm I love you so much and I hope you get to see my face a lot this summer. She smiled and turned over so he was kind of leaning over her, leaning up she pressed her lips to his in a passionate kiss, her hands and arms coming to wrap around his neck loosely. She broke the kiss and smiled, you know how much I love my farmer boy, even with his awkwardness but it makes him that much cuter, but I love this confident side as well. She laughed and pressed her lips to his again in another heated kiss.

Things moved along in kind of a blur for Ethan. It wasn't that the hadn't kissed before. They'd been together for a year, of course they had. He'd seen her in less clothes than she was wearing now, if you counted what she wore swimming in the lake. But there was something about being in the dark that heightened all your other senses. It made Ethan feel less nervous because he didn't have to worry about blushing or smiling awkwardly.
Their kisses continued until he was sort of leaning over her, and then she wrapped her arms around his neck. He was very aware of the fact that he was wearing so little, yet so close to her. Half of him wanted to pull away and run off screaming. The other half was just lost in the moment and was relishing every feel and emotion that ran through him.
He laughed softly as she called him a farmer boy. There was no denying the truth so he just went with it. Their kisses grew more passionate but he pulled away and lay back on his side, facing her. "Well, if I'm your farmer boy, you're my cowgirl." More like a rodeo queen, he thought. Cowgirl just didn't describe the way she made him feel or the scope of her perfection.
Ethan pulled her closer, laying his hand against the back of her head. He kissed her on the forehead and then on the tip of her nose. "You know, you're even beautiful in the dark," he teased. He slid his hand the back of her hair and then rubbed along the back of her tank top, wanting nothing more than to lay close to her and never let go. He found himself hoping this night would never end, because who knew when they'd get the chance to repeat it again.

Ethan was a little disappointed when Aria turned away again, but he knew it was for the best. He didn't really want things to go any further, even though some part of him sort of did. For being a teenager, he was pretty good at keeping his hormones in check and this was no exception.
Her breathing settled into a steady pattern and though he felt wide away, he felt her drifting into sleep. Inwardly he was a bundle of nerves and emotions and just wanted to toss and turn. But he didn't want to disturb her peaceful sleep, so he just lay there, snuggling up behind her. His chest pressed against her back and his head brushed the back of her hair. He had his arm draped around her side, and realized that her tank top had shifted enough that his forearm lay across the skin of her stomach. His skin prickled into goosebumps as he slowly moved his arm to where his hand lay across her her skin.
His breathing was heavier now, but he forced his eyes shut and focused on trying to fall asleep. Gradually, he felt himself relax and everything began to feel more natural. He sort of forgot that this was the first time they'd spent the night together. It just felt like another day, nothing unusual at all. His mind grew fuzzy as he began to finally find solace in sleep, but his hands held her solidly, moving up under her shirt just a little as he drifted off into dreams.

She was sleeping contently until she heard something shattering and a scream, the pattering of footsteps frantically down the hall made her jump and become alert once more. She didn’t however want to move, so she listened in, sounded like a tree branch had gone through Hannah’s window but the storm that raged outside was not a tornado just straight line winds, Aria relaxed with a shiver glad it hadn’t been her room, it was scary to have something come through the window like that and the storm outside was no exception, she snuggled closer to him for once in her life she was afraid but her parents weren’t too worried, she could hear Hannah giggling as they carried her to their room, shutting the door to her room behind them. It made her relax more and she found her eyes closing again, sleep seeming right there and it was it, it didn’t take her long to fall asleep once more. Her hand resting atop his that was slightly under her tank top. When she heard her fathers wakeup call the next morning she smiled and rolled over giving Ethan a kiss, good morning love time to get up and get to work. She wiggled out from under the covers keeping him covered as she padded across her floor, grabbing jeans and a t-shirt she tugged them on and pulled her hair back, brushing her teeth, her boots went on next and she went downstairs to wait for Ethan.
